For each patient, there are four linked scenarios (i.e., four 'steps' during your visit), and at each step, you are asked to decide how best to respond to the situation presented. In total, there are therefore 16 'steps' to deal with (i.e., 4 steps with each of 4 patients). You should assume that today you begin work as a locum nurse in a hospital. Your shift starts at 7:00am, seeing patients in 4 single-bed side rooms. To help you settle into the new environment you have been allocated around 15 minutes with each of these first 4 patients, before replacing a colleague in a large ward at 8:30am. Your task is to indicate one response you believe is MOST appropriate to take and one response you believe is LEAST appropriate to take based upon the information (scenario) presented. You may find some of these decisions difficult. If this happens, try not to deliberate for too long; your initial judgment will often be the safest one to follow. EXAMPLE QUESTION When you have ranked the four actions, move on to the next step and follow the same process. There is no time limit, but you should expect to spend up to 10-15 minutes completing it.
