What the Diagrammatic Reasoning Test measures
The Diagrammatic Reasoning Test measures logical, rule-based process thinking. A row of shapes passes through a flowchart of rules; candidates work out what comes out at the end, or which rule is missing. A key of rules is shown on every question, so no prior knowledge is needed.
Following a process step by step
Applying each rule in turn and keeping track of the result.
Handling decisions
Checking a condition at a Yes/No switch and following the right path.
Working backwards
Comparing the input with the output to find the missing step.
Accuracy under complexity
Keeping track of intermediate results as the number of steps rises from two to four.
Why organisations choose Viewpoint ability tests
Fair and objective
Every candidate takes the same test, scored the same way, so decisions rest on evidence rather than impressions.
Candidates know what to expect
Clear instructions and example questions come before the test starts, so nobody is caught out by the format.
Reports you can act on
Clear results and score bands from Very Low to Very High, ready for shortlisting or a feedback conversation.
Fits your process
Use it to screen applicants early, to shortlist, or to add objective evidence at the final stage.
Reports that do the work for you
The report shows the candidate's score and score band (Very Low to Very High), with speed and accuracy. It comes in two versions: an Assessor Report with interview questions, and a Candidate Report with no scores and practical development advice.

Learn the key in the practice questions
The same key is used throughout, so time spent understanding it early pays off.
Write down each step
Use rough paper to note the row of shapes after every box; most mistakes come from losing track part-way.
Check the order
Apply the boxes in the order the arrows show, and check the Yes/No question carefully before choosing a path.
Use the wrong answers
Wrong options often come from skipping a box or doing boxes in the wrong order, so check you haven't done either.
