What Does the Shape Assembly Test Assess?
Shape Assembly is a game-based test of spatial visualisation and mental rotation. Candidates see a set of loose 3D parts and choose which of four shapes can be built from all of them. Parts can be turned to fit, but mirror images do not count.
- - Mental rotation: Turning shapes in the mind to see how they fit.
- - Spatial visualisation: Picturing how separate parts combine into a whole.
- - Careful checking: Ruling out shapes that use the wrong parts or a mirror image.
Who Should Take This Test?
Shape Assembly is designed for entry-level to graduate roles that need good spatial ability:
- - Engineering and technical roles
- - Manufacturing and production roles
- - Apprentices and graduates
- - Design and construction roles

Practice Shape Assembly Test
Candidates get untimed practice questions with feedback before the test starts. See the full test details on iTestHub.
Shape Assembly Test Report
Results are reported in the same way as our other tests: an Assessor Report showing the candidate's score band (Very Low to Very High) with interview questions, and a Candidate Report with no scores, giving supportive development advice.

How to Do Well in Your Shape Assembly Test
- Count the parts: Check each option uses every part, and no more.
- Watch for mirror images: A shape that only works if a part is flipped is not the answer.
- Turn one part at a time: Match the most distinctive part first, then fit the rest around it.
- Use the practice items: They show exactly how the parts and options work.
